La Ronge Don Allen Saskaloppet (Friday, March 4 & Saturday, March 5):
Although this past summer’s forest fires have caused the Saskaloppet to move to the Don Allen Trails for this year, the distances will be similar to other years. The two-day, overnight camping Kupesewin events will start on Friday, March 4. Kupesewin skiers will have a choice between the 45-km Kupesewin Lite, the 75-km Kupesewin Marathon and the 75-km Kupesewin Sasquatch (where skiers carry all their camping gear). Other Saskaloppet events will start Saturday, March 5 at 10:00 a.m. in a mass start. They will include 3-km, 10-km, 20-km, 30-km and 45-km events.
Registration for the Saskaloppet is online at www.zone4.ca. Skiers can register by searching for “2016 La Ronge Don Allen Saskaloppet.” The deadline for early registration is Monday, February 29 at 9:00 p.m. Late registrations at an extra cost of $10 will be allowed until Thursday, March 3 at 9:00 a.m. More information on the Saskaloppet can found on the online registration page.
Sask Cup #1 & #2 in La Ronge have been postponed several times from the original dates of December 5 & 6, 2015, due to poor snow conditions and then cold weather. They are now scheduled to go ahead on the weekend of SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 13 & SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2016.
Skiers who have previously registered for Sask Cup #1 & #2 do not have to re-register for the new February 13 & 14 dates. Any skiers registered prior to January 9, 2016, who are unable to attend on the postponement dates will have their registration fees refunded by the La Ronge Ski Club.
